G.B.ソワビー 『ラマルクの分類体系に準じた貝類の分類目録』 Sowerby 一族は、James Sowerby から George B. Sowerby III までの４代にわたり、鉱物学、植物学、動物学に及ぶ啓蒙書、図鑑類を自ら作画を含めて出版し、イギリスにおける自然史研究の発展に大きく貢献した。 この本の著者George Brettingham Sowerby は、Sowerby 一家のひとりで、James Sowerby の孫にあたる。 本書は Lamarck の分類システムに準じた貝類分類の著作であり、手で彩色された9枚の美麗なリトグラフ図版を伴う。当時の著名な印刷工房 Hullmandel で印刷されており、また、当図書室所蔵資料には著者の直筆献呈サインも含まれ、稀少価値がすこぶる高い。 |
